Stockholm in the snow |
Yesterday we were off to Stockholm for the day to see some museums and have a good ol' time. We took the train from Uppsala down to Stockholm. The train station is right in the center of town, perfect to see a lot even on our kind of tight schedule.

We started at the National Museum where we saw lots of art. We thought there would be some viking stuff there, but no. Sadly. So we spent hours walking around and making fun of the funny faces in every painting.

Thea brought us to Storkyrkan on Gamla Stan where there is an amazing sculpture of Saint George slaying a dragon from 1489. The dragon portion is made completely out of elk antlers. It's supposed to be symbolic of the conquering of the Danish in Stockholm.

Then we walked around town in the ice, which wasn't so fun. Not one of us actually fell, but there were lots of little slips about every minute or so. Our running joke was that anytime someone slips, they're pissed for about 10 minutes after, and therefore we were just in a terrible mood the whole time we were in Stockholm.

We stopped for dinner at a viking restaurant called Aifur where we ate reindeer heart! That's the one in the bottom right corner. We drank lots of mead and ate reindeer, moose, and really delicious sausage. It's a really cool restaurant/mead hall down in a kind of cavern where you're introduced at the top of the stairs like proper vikings. And then everyone cheers and pounds the tables while you walk to your portion of the family style tables. After Aifur we stopped by an Irish pub, funny enough, before hopping back on the train to Uppsala.
