Yesterday was a very fun and very long day. I had a normal morning and afternoon hanging out with my host family at home. Spring is fully here now, sunshine everywhere. So I met my friend to "study" in the park for a little. We mostly just "faire le lézard" or soaked up the sun like lizards.
Later, we went (about 6 or 7 of us) to another Seattle student host family's house for a show they were putting on. The invitation said clowns and I was skeptical until I showed up and it was just these lovely people who were loud and extravagant and very funny. They heard that there were Americans so they threw in things in English. We told them after their show that, yes, we actually did understand them in French and they were a little surprised and very pleased. A lot of crowd interaction, which was great. There were probably 40/50 people there. I was seated on the floor in the front and at one point had caution tape wrapped around my ankle, our shoes were marked with chalk and my friend even had to go up and be their volunteer (which funnily enough is "innocent hand" in French). Then after the performance there was lots of food and, my favorite part, a French woman who didn't believe at first that I was American and thought that all of us in the front were actually in on the show.
After all the happenings, we all went to fête (celebrate) my 21st birthday, consisting mainly of drinking. Which, conveniently, can be celebrated two days before I'm actually 21. Kind of sad being in France turning 21, it means nothing changes. We walked into town and went to our favorite bars. It was a superb evening, even if I had a bit of a gueule de bois this morning.
